Check out this Vulcan Gas Company handbill for a set of shows (2/28/69 & 3/1/69) by the band Texas Storm (formerly: The Chessmen) with support by the Georgetown Medical Band and the Mustangs. The psychedelic art is by Jim Franklin who went on to fame doing art for the Armadillo World Headquarters.
The Chessmen were known for playing the psychedelic, overblown sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and the Yardbirds. Jimmie Vaughan could play note-perfect versions of the day's hits. This helped make the Chessmen one of Dallas' top club and college-circuit draws.
Jimmie Vaughan once said: "I was making three hundred bucks a week, more money than my dad .... Everyone else in the band was 21, and I was this little kid with attitude and a Telecaster. I knew all the licks."
The group Texas became known for having Jimmie Vaughan's younger brother, Stevie Ray, on bass guitar. Texas Storm soon shortened their name to just: Storm.
