Roky Tribute Album - In Norwegian!
Yeah, of course you as an American can't read Norwegian, but even Norwegians can't - it's just an act! (Written as only the descendant of generations of Norwegian immigrant farmers can write). But, as the website says: "In the name of Roky, velkommen til en fantastisk kveld!" If it's "kveld," it's gotta be good. Right?

Billy Alienate Not Invited to Aliens Reunion
Rumor has it that autoharpist, Billy Alienate, wasn't invited to the Aliens reunion because his playing has deterioriated so badly over the years. Supposedly, Alienate has refused to practice and has lost his chops. Currently, the Aliens are backing Powell St. John on some gigs. When asked an Alien said; "Billy just needs to practice some; maybe take lessons. He can come back when he can contribute." Here's to Billy's journey back; I hope it goes well.

Iggy Pop Mentions 13th Floor Elevators

Iggy Pop was recently asked about being snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he mentions the 13th Floor Elevators:
Austin Chronicle: What's the deal with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Van Halen over the Stooges. Please. I made a rule that the Chronicle won't vote in any more Texans until Doug Sahm and the 13th Floor Elevators get in.
Iggy Pop: I often think about the Elevators when I say to myself, "The Stooges are one of many groups that were good and interesting, and because one of our members stuck around and managed to clean up well, we're getting attention with our music for a second time. But we're not the only ones who deserve that."
As far as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they're not going to consider it in a certain way. I never really expected it from them. It's run by a very particular group of people. It represents very particular things they want to accomplish, and it's fine if we're not included. I hear about it every time from my friends. I remember Ron [Asheton] telling me we were nominated, and my drummer was excited. And the next thing I know, I imagine myself saying, "Hey Dad, guess what! Your son is in the Hall of Fame!"
Otherwise, I don't have much of an opinion about it. It was just like, "Oh God. Now I have to hear about this every time I do a bloody interview!" [Laughs] But that's fine. One of the things that keeps the Stooges out is that we've never sold a significant amount of records at one time within the boundaries of the USA. That's a common thread in everyone they induct. I rode on an airplane with Sam Moore of Sam & Dave the day after he got in, and he was begging me for a job. He had a hit, but he didn't have a career.
It's just business. It's okay. We've done well, and we have no complaints. But I won't hold my breath waiting for them to give a shit.

Roky Trust Sends Stooge to Try and Extract Easter Everywhere Master

Recently, there has been a covert effort by the Roky Erickson Trust to extract the Easter Everywhere master from the rightful owner. They send their stooge, Paul Drummond, to try and conduct secret negotiations. Paul is the author of some book about the 13th Floor Elevators that's coming out. He's busy trying to make a buck like all the "trusted" at the Roky Robber's Roost.
Anyway, Drummond did his best to cry broke and talked all this grandiose talk. It all boiled down to they *they* wanted the 8-track submaster to Easter Everywhere for nothing! They were trying to talk their way into it! And they were not above lying through their teeth too. They said that "Walt Andrus" was on board with the project. That's a bald-faced lie.
We will be posting CLOSE UP photographs of the Easter Everywhere masters on this very BLOG soon. Right now, talks are underway with SERIOUS offers, not folks who make us laugh.
Look for the EXCLUSIVE Easter Everywhere master tapes photos soon!
Also look for the Roky CD Club to issue the Easter Everywhere / Bull of the Woods ripped from original International Artists pressings. This will be Attack of the LPs Vol II. Read more about it here:

Roky Erickson to Appear in New Orleans in May
Roky Erickson will be appearing at the 2007 Ponderosa Stomp, along with master arranger Wardell Quezergue, soul songwriter supreme Dan Penn, rockabilly wild man Dale Hawkins, R&B soprano Little Jimmy Scott, and dozens more rarely seen – and seldom heard – American music legends in its line-up. This is a marathon eight hours-plus music festival that celebrates and pays tribute to the unsung heroes of rock 'n' roll, rhythm & blues, and other forms of American roots music, the 6th Annual Ponderosa Stomp will rock two stages, the Big Room and the Parish, at New Orleans' House of Blues from 5:30PM to 2AM on Wednesday, May 2, 2007. It's produced by a group known as the Mystic Knights of the Mau-Mau.
The Mystic Knights consider it their mission to celebrate America's overlooked musical pioneers and re-educate the community about their impact on music. Through past partnerships with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Sun Studios, The Stax Museum of American Soul Music, The New Orleans Musicians Clinic, and The New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund, the 501c3 group has helped resurrect the careers of several legendary musicians, including Jody Williams, Howard Tate, and Barbara Lynn.
"The audience won't even know what hit them, " promises Dr. Ike Padnos, executive director of the Mystic Knights of the Mau-Mau, the 501c3 organization that's producing the 6th Annual Ponderosa Stomp, which also features Texas Tornado co-founder Augie Meyers, Stax sessions guitarist Skip Pitts, Mardi Gras king Al "Carnival Time" Johnson, Excello harp master Lazy Lester, tremendous trumpeter/famed New Orleans bandleader Dave Bartholomew, tough Texas shouter Roy Head, and rockabilly wailer Joe Clay.
Also appearing at the 6th Annual Ponderosa Stomp: Motown guitar slinger Dennis Coffey, hill country bluesman Kenny Brown, chitlin' circuit showman Bobby Rush, "Mr. Big Stuff" singer Jean Knight, piano man Henry Gray, six-string demolition expert Eddie Kirkland, rockabilly drummer Matt Lucas, Memphis sessions genius Bobby Emmons, swamp pop singer Grace (Dale & Grace) Broussard, New Orleans heartbreaker Tony Owens, Muscle Shoals veteran Ralph "Soul" Jackson, and backing bands Lil Buck Sinegal and the Top Cats with special guest Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural, Deke Dickerson & the Eccofonics, and the New Orleans Rhythm and Blues Revue.
The Mystic Knights of the Mau-Mau also produces various events throughout the year, including showcases at SXSW and New Orleans' own Voodoo Music Experience, one-off concerts in New Orleans and Memphis, and The Ogden Museum of Southern Arts' monthly After Hours music series. The non-profit, volunteer-run organization, founded by a group of rock'n'roll fanatics to celebrate the pioneers of blues, country, swamp pop, jazz, soul, and R&B, has presented more than 50 shows.
